“An evolutionary union.”

When I left graduate school a little over 20 years ago, I wanted to be a plant breeder. I was fascinated by the way the plant world evolved and how the unique genetics of two different species could be combined to create something greater than the sum of its parts. Fate had other plans for me, however, and now, two decades later, I find myself fully committed to the professional pest control industry.

Yet, as I write these words, I can’t help but smile at how much my agronomic roots continue to influence the way I view the world today. With the coming together of BASF Professional Pest Control and Whitmire Micro-Gen, we are witnessing what I consider to be an “evolutionary” union.

I say evolutionary rather than revolutionary because, just as with changes in the plant world, what might seem to be a sudden step forward is really something that has been developing and taking shape for a very long time. Both BASF and Whitmire have rich legacies and long histories of innovation and industry contribution. In coming together now to form BASF Pest Control Solutions, the seemingly independent evolutionary paths of these two greatly respected companies become one. As a result, the best elements of each will be strengthened and expanded. It’s a major step forward not just for these two companies, but also for the entire pest control industry.

That’s the nature of evolution. I’m thrilled to be a part of it.
